What is worldwide travel insurance and do you need it?

Worldwide travel insurance is your safety net for dream getaways, whether you’re sightseeing in Seattle, back-packing in Bali, or soaking up the sun on a Caribbean beach. It covers you for unexpected events – from a medical emergency to a lost bag – wherever your journey takes you.

At InsureandGo, our global policies can cover a one-off trip, while our annual worldwide travel insurance will give you multi-trip cover for a whole year.

Still not sure whether you need cover for your own jet-setting adventure? Here’s why global travel insurance is every bit as essential as your passport:

Make sure you check the policy wording to see the full terms and conditions and details of what is and isn’t included.

Does worldwide travel insurance cover all countries?

Many insurance providers may say they offer worldwide travel insurance, but when you read the small print you realise that some destinations have been excluded.

If you’re planning a one-off trip, you can let us know the country or countries you’ll be travelling to. If you’re buying an annual policy, then we group the destinations into four areas:

If you’re not sure which area your chosen holiday destinations would be in, please contact us.

How to book our worldwide insurance

There’s so much to think about when you’re planning a holiday of a lifetime. Luckily, sorting your worldwide travel insurance is quick and easy with InsureandGo.

1. Tell us about your trips

This includes who you want to cover and when you want the policy to start. You will need to declare your pre-existing medical conditions, to make sure you get the right level of cover.

It’s quick and easy to give us this information, either online or by calling our team:

2. Get your quote

Once we have all the details we need, we will show you your quote. At this stage you can go ahead and buy your policy, or save the quote for future.

Worldwide travel insurance with pre-existing medical condition cover

Want to see the world? There’s no need to let a pre-existing medical condition clip your wings. At InsureandGo, we consider all medical conditions and offer a minimum of £5 million cover for medical expenses.

When you get a quote, we’ll ask about your previous and current state of health. A few easy-to-answer questions may lead to a medical screening process. It’s here that you’ll need to mention any pre-existing medical conditions. These include recurring illnesses or injuries, ongoing or lifelong conditions, previous surgeries and any conditions you currently have.

We’ll then use this information to determine the cost of your policy.

You must declare all pre-existing medical conditions before you buy your policy. Unfortunately, we won’t be able to cover you if you claim for an undeclared, pre-existing condition.

For more information, read your policy documents or have a look at our page on travel insurance for pre-existing medical conditions.

Frequently asked questions on worldwide travel insurance

How long will worldwide travel insurance cover you for?

How long you’re covered depends on whether you choose to take out a single trip or annual policy for your worldwide travel.

Single trip insurance can cover you for a holiday of up to 365 days in length.

Annual travel insurance will give you cover for multiple trips over a whole year. You can take as many trips as you like, with each trip being up to:

  • 31 days away for Budget policies
  • 45 for Silver and Gold
  • 55 days abroad for Black

How much does worldwide travel insurance cost?

How much you pay for your worldwide policy depends on where you’re going and what you plan to do when you get there. Things that can affect the cost of your policy include:

  • Your choice of destination – Worldwide policies that include the USA (along with Canada, Mexico and the Caribbean) tend to cost more due to the higher cost of medical expenses in these areas
  • The level of cover you require – Do you want extra protection for your gadgets or golf?
  • The amount of time you’ll be away

Your age and any medical conditions you have declared

What is the age limit on worldwide travel insurance policies?

At InsureandGo there is no upper age limit on any of our policies. Our seniors travel insurance can cover people of any age, including those with medical conditions. We also have travel insurance for children with medical conditions.

Our seniors worldwide insurance includes over 100 sports and activities as standard. You can even upgrade to include our adventure and extreme sports cover if they’re part of your travel plans.

Will my GHIC cover me worldwide?

No it won’t. GHIC may stand for Global Health Insurance Card, but it’s actually only valid in Europe. You can use it in any EU country, plus Montenegro, Norway, Iceland, Liechtenstein and Switzerland.

Is it best to buy a single or an annual multi-trip policy for my global trip?

The best option for you depends on your travel plans during the next 12 months.

If you’re travelling the world, you might want to be away for longer than usual. Our single trip policies can cover you for a one-off holiday of up to 365 days in length, making it a great option for extended travel. Adding optional extras like golf, lets you tailor your cover to meet your specific needs on that one-off occasion.

If you are going on holiday multiple times throughout the year, an annual policy could be better value for you.

With an annual policy, you can travel as many times as you like within 12 months, saving you time and money. There are, however, limits on the number of days you can be away for any one trip. You can be away for 31 days for Budget policies, 45 for Silver and Gold, and 55 days abroad for Black.

Does worldwide travel insurance cover the UK?

Planning a staycation as part of your global adventure? All our policies cover trips within the UK, as long as you have booked overnight accommodation.

When does the worldwide travel insurance cover begin?

Full benefits of your worldwide travel Insurance policy start on the travel dates you have selected. However, all InsureandGo policies include cover for travel cancellation which protects you against losses if you have to cancel your trip.

If you buy a single trip policy, cover for holiday cancellation starts from the date you book your trip or pay the insurance premium, whichever is later (a good reason not to leave buying insurance until the last minute!).

If you’ve got an annual multi-trip policy, cover for cancellation starts either at the time you book your trip or the start date shown on your insurance certificate, whichever is later.

If, due to unexpected circumstances that are beyond your control, you can’t finish your holiday within the period of insurance, we’ll extend your cover for up to 30 days, at no extra cost.

Does worldwide travel insurance include Covid cover?

Yes it does. Any policy you buy from our website includes the level of Covid cover set out on our Coronavirus Travel Insurance page, and you’ll also find it in our policy wordings. It doesn’t matter whether you buy a single trip policy or annual multi-trip cover for your worldwide trip.

Who can buy an InsureandGo worldwide travel insurance policy?

All our UK travel insurance policies are available to UK residents. This means:
